Okay, so - almost all of you reading this are going to be my very good friends, and in turn should know that I am no little attention seeking emo whining bitch. But recently I've been the target of a fucking hate project and it's about time I actually got to have my say.
Because I'm not a fan of name dropping (the way I see it, the people I'm talking about will know who they are), these shall remain nameless. Whatever happened to people fighting their own battles, while I'm on the subject? I guess independence went out of fashion a long time ago, but oh well. I'm also not into copying and pasting just one side of an argument, but hey, there you go.
Let's just get the first thing straight - if you looked at somebody's page, would you watch them, and more to the point, would you draw a headshot of their character?
Okay, let's move on to the next point. Let's just say, for argument's sakes, Susi is your character. All of a sudden, the person who thought your art was weird has suddenly got a purple character with a tie like Susi's, hair that's like a mixture of your other character's one, a peircing in the same ear, and a heart marking (and come on, everybody knows why I put that on her) only with crossbones, and ribbons like another one of your characters. You might think it's just creative coincedience, change a few things with Susi, and move on. Y'with me so far??
Then say your mother is disabled and you make a character based on her. This character can black out and go into FUCKING COMAS, has a face that can drop, can't walk properly, can't talk properly sometimes, and you care for her. Say you give your character the Ace of Spades marking, and the person that just ripped off Susi now takes this marking and so much more from your other characters - Tragedy's arm band, for one thing, and the stripes on his tail, but placing them on the forleg and changing the colours does not change the fact that I was ripped off again. The only reason I'm bothering to mention the Ace of Spades marking is that is ALL this person is going on about, and I need to point out that it's not all it was.
IS ANY OF THIS SOUNDING FAMILIAR YET?? Because I am my mother's carer. She is disabled. WE ARE PINS AND NEEDLES. SHE IS GOING INTO HOSPITAL ON MONDAY TO HAVE A FUCKING SPINAL TAP DONE. There's no way I'm lying about that, so come and call me an emo attention seeking bitch, a psycho, a twat and a bitch and whatever the hell you've got next... it just makes you the lowest piece of shit going.
Say you have enough now, because the character you made for your mother means the world to you. I hold my hands up and say, yes, I might have been out of line with a few comments I might have made, and a name that I cussed, but you can't expect anybody to take three people being so up their own asses that you just can't help snapping.
And surprise, surpise. When you walk away from it, yet more and more people feel the need to come cussing you down, just because you dared to stand up and voice your opinion. Also, it's not fun when you've already had death threats from one of those people.
Now what I'm saying is, I don't mind that other people might create characters with the same markings as mine. But when you take relentlessly, and by the end of it you've never once said, "Oh, by the way the markings, or the whole character, or whatever, were inspired by so-and-so". That fucking pisses me off, because I've always had the decency to thank other people for inspiring me.
What I'm saying is this. If you like something on my character and you want to do something similar, just ask. 90% of the time, if your my close friend and you ask me that, I'm gonna say yes.
Because my characters come from the heart. They're not created because goth, punk, emo or whatever else is on the scene at that time.
